Coach, Coached, Coaching 2013

ICW2013InternationalCoachFederation

Today is the first day of International Coaching Week.   Coaches who are members of the International Coach Federation are happily and purposely getting the word out about the value of coaching.  What this means is that we educate the public about the benefits of professional coaching and illustrate the value coaching can bring to peoples’ lives as in Coach, Coached, Coaching.

Earlier this month I read a travel magazine.  The magazine included two ads that used coaching concepts to market the value of travel to a community.  The concepts are inner and outer and getting outside your comfort zone.   The first ad read:  “Use your OUTSIDE VOICE to find your INNER PEACE.”  Coaching is a partnership between the client and the coach for the benefit of empowering the client’s potential. Thought provoking questions are used in the coaching process so that the client comes to realize his/her goal.  The way we act comes from thoughts and feelings (the inner process) which result in actions (outer process).  How often do we say one thing and then do another?   The coaching process provides a safe place for clients to explore their inner and outer issues.

Another ad read: “BOAT ROCKERS, RISK TAKERS, REBELS AND DEVIATORS FROM THE NORM,  WELCOME.”   This is an example of the coaching concept of getting outside your comfort zone by becoming a life-long learner about yourself.  How often do we take a risk, we hadn’t done before, and reached a deeper level of understanding of ourselves.  What drove us to take the risk?   What impact did it have on those around us?   Why do we want to continue to realize opportunities we never considered before?  If the idiom of “rocking the boat” applies to us, what do we gain by this action?  How do we incorporate the positive risk outcomes in our daily life?  How do we handle the negative outcomes, if any, from “rocking the boat.”   The coaching process provides a catalyst for you to consider these concepts in reaching your goal(s).

Have a great week in your career, while you Choose Who You Want to be Known As this first day of International Coaching Week. . . Coach, Coached, Coaching 2013.
